Roy McMacken Obituary

Roy Wesley McMacken, also known as "Wes" to his family, passed away on Dec. 10, 2023, at the age of 85 in Farmington, NM. He was born on August 10, 1938, in Watertown, South Dakota, to Norris McMacken and Katherine Waddell. Roy was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Ann Marie McMacken; father, mother, sisters JoAnn Maurer and Janice Mason; and brother William McMacken.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marcia M. McMacken, (Nichols); daughter Beth McMacken, sister Karen Ellis, and brother Charles McMacken and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Growing up in a ranching and rodeo family, Roy had a remarkable life defined by his true western spirit and indomitable "can do it" attitude.

Roy pursued his passion for running and participated in the Honolulu Marathon in 1982 alongside his daughter Beth, creating cherished memories.

He served in the Air Force for 28 years in various capacities and was honored to serve as an instructor at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany. Roy was stationed in several locations, including Tokyo, Japan; Omaha, Nebraska; Rapid City, South Dakota; Mililani, Hawaii. He retired as a major in 1984, having received his officer's commission in 1968 prior to serving in Vietnam.

In his leisure time, Roy found joy in restoring old cars, especially MGs. He also loved caring for his gardens in Florida and New Mexico.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 15, 2024, in Durango, CO, to honor Roy's legacy. With heartfelt love and gratitude for a remarkable kind and generous father, brother and uncle who left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
