Ronald Hale Obituary

Bayfield resident Ronald D. Hale died from complications of surgery for a lung infection Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the Raymond G. Murphy Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albuquerque. He had turned 66 one week earlier.

Known as "Ron," he was born to Carl and Kay Hale on Feb. 22, 1947, in Colorado Springs. His family said he was proud to be a native Coloradan.

After high school he joined the Army, serving as a communications specialist in Germany. Upon his return, he married his first wife, Lyn. The marriage later ended in divorce.

He worked as a master plumber and "was always sought out for his knowledge in the field," his family said. Mr. Hale owned his own business in Colorado Springs for a number of years, later working in Durango, Denver, Glenwood Springs, Aspen and Vail.

In 1990, he moved to Glenwood Springs and married Cindy Hughes in 1991 in Rifle.

Mr. Hale had always wanted to build his own home, his family said, so in 2005, the Hales bought 66 acres of land outside of Bayfield and fulfilled his dream.

"It was a source of great pride to him that he used many recycled items in the construction," his family said.

Mr. Hale enjoyed fishing, caving, camping, taking care of the land, exploring new places with his wife, playing with his grandchildren, spending time with his dog, Sister, and studying his Bible.

"In his later years, Ron enjoyed garage sale shopping and selling at the flea market," his family said. "He loved to haggle over prices."

Mr. Hale is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cindy Hale of Bayfield; children Kerri Williams and Bryan Hale, both of Colorado Springs; stepsons Jim Hughes of Durango and Jeremiah Hughes of Steamboat Springs; sister, Carla Hale, of Colorado Springs; twin brother, Don Hale of Larkfield, Greenock, Scotland; and five grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In his memory, his families ask that you give your loved ones an extra hug and make sure they know you love them.
