Roma Stastny Obituary

Roma Stastny died at home in Grand Junction with her family by her side Friday, Feb. 27, 2009. She was 72.

Mrs. Stastny was born Sept. 9, 1936, in Lincoln, Neb., to Greg and Cleva Schrepf. She graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1954 and married Fred Stastny on Sept. 5, 1955. The couple moved to Durango four years later and then to Grand Junction, where Fred Stastny worked as an architect, in the early 1980s.

Mrs. Stastny loved cooking, crafts, crochet and cross-stitch. She loved to surprise her family with new recipes, and was just as fond of bringing back old classics. She spent most of her time in the company of her poodles and is said to have loved them dearly. She is remembered fondly as a good homemaker and is said to have been much loved by her husband, Fred, and her family.

Mrs. Stastny is survived by her husband of 53 years, Fred; her son, Mike Stastny of Durango; her three daughters Barb Martinez of Durango, Lin Gsell of Grand Junction and Trish Vagneur of Grand Junction; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Stastny was a grateful recipient of a transplanted liver 17 years ago. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Liver Transplant Surgery Patient Fund at the University of Colorado Hospital, Box C-318, 1635 N. Aurora Court, Aurora, CO 80045.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at her home in the Ridges, 376½ Soapweed Court in Grand Junction. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Mesa Funeral Service, 832 S. Seventh St. in Grand Junction.
