Robert Sherman Obituary

Former Durango resident Robert E. Sherman died Thursday, July 1, 2010, in Olathe. He was 87.

Mr. Sherman was born to Thomas Theron and Dorothy (Nichols) Sherman on May 17, 1923, in Grand Junction. He spent his

childhood in Grand Junction and graduated from Grand Junction High School.

After graduating, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Pensacola during World War II.

Mr. Sherman worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. for 40 years and lived in various places in Colorado, including

Durango, Ouray, Grand Junction and Aspen.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of both the Benevolent & Protective

Order of Elks and the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Mae Sherman.

He is survived by his son, James Sherman, of Alamosa; daughters Wendy Lopez of Alamosa and Christy Coutts of Delta;

sister, Betty Gibbs, of Grand Junction; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the All Saints Anglican Church in Montrose.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, Pacific Mountain Affiliate,
