Mary Gorman Obituary
Ms. Gorman was born to James and Margaret Gorman on Aug. 4, 1921, at the old Mercy Hospital, where she eventually
worked as a nurse for 38 years.
She attended St. Columba School before graduating from Durango High School in 1939. Ms. Gorman studied at the Mercy
Hospital School of Nursing in Denver and took postgraduate training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
Although Ms. Gorman never had children of her own, she loved children and nurtured many as a pediatric and obstetric
nurse at Mercy Hospital during her long career there.
After retiring, she enjoyed current events and visiting with neighbors. She also enjoyed visiting with children and
going out to lunch.
Ms. Gorman was a longtime member of St. Columba Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
No immediate family survives Ms. Gorman. She is survived by several cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at St. Columba Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mercy, 1 Mercado St., Suite 270, Durango, CO
81301; or the charity of one's choice.
