Robert Everett Obituary

Durango resident Robert Leon Everett died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at his home.He was 81.

Known as “Bob," he was born to Charles and Marie (Hubbard) Everett in Farmington on June 24, 1928. While he was

growing up, his family owned one of the first dairies there, the Everett Dairy. Mr. Everett graduated from Farmington

High School.

He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany.

On April 7, 1950, he married Mary Ellen O'Brien in Farmington, and they operated a trading post on the Navajo

Reservation in Shonto Springs, Ariz.

After that, Mr. Everett was manager of the Southern Natural Gas Co., in Grants, N.M. His family said he was happy to

be transferred to Durango in the mid-1960s. Mr. Everett later became manager of People's Natural Gas Co. in Durango

and retired in the early 1980s. Everett Street in Bodo Park was named in his honor.

Mr. Everett served on the Durango School District 9-R School Board in the 1980s.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and raising horses. Mr. Everett had one of the first guide and outfitter

licenses in Colorado. His family said he was proud of his horses and the many “trophies" he acquired while archery

hunting.

In his later days, his daughter, Linda Everett, cared for him.

Mr. Everett was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Ellen O'Brien Everett.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Everett, of Durango; son, Rick Everett, of Durango; brothers Jinx Everett of

Whitewater and Bert Everett of Albuquerque; and three grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
