Richard Vaccaro Obituary

Richard "Dick" and Dorothy "Dot" Vaccaro formely of Bayfield, Colorado passed away in Cottonwood, Arizona.

Dick, 90 passed away October 4, 2015. He was born June1, 1925 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Charles and Ruby Vaccaro. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Charles and Eugene Vaccaro.

Dick was an army veteran of WWII and a Purple Heart recipient. He was proud of his service in the 101st Airborne Known as the "Screaming Eagles".

After he retired as a retail drug store manager he and Dot moved to Bayfield, Colorado. Dick was active in the VFW, DAV, American Legion, Lion's Club and as a volunteer with Upper Pine River Fire District including work on Missionary Ridge Fire.

Dot, 88 passed away December 11, 2015. She was born June 8, 1927 in rising Star, Texas to Wirt and Ruby Small. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John C. and Ted M. Small and her husband of almost 73 years, Richard P. Vaccaro.

After Dot retired from nursing she delivered "Meals on Wheels" and volunteered at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, Colorado.

She belonged to the "Eastern Star" and VFW Auxiliary organizations. Dot was also a strong advocate for rescue animals and donated to many animal shelters including The La Plata County Humane Society.

Dot and Dick are survived by their four daughters Sheila Mihelich of California, Cindy Harms of Arizona and Bayfield, Colorado, Dana Vaccaro 7 Jeanette McKee of Washington State; 6 grandkids and several great grandkids.

A graveside "Celebration of Life" will be held at The Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield, Colorado at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 19, 2016. All are welcome.

Donations in Dick's name may be made in his name to the Upper Pine Fire District.

Donations in Dot's name may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
