Richard Rivera Obituary

Richard Joseph Rivera

Richard passed unexpectedly at home and went to heaven at the age of 71 on July 13, 2025. Richard was born August 9, 1953 in Durango, CO to Libradita (Abeyta) and Enrique Rivera from Arboles CO. He grew up in Ignacio, CO, graduating from Ignacio High School in 1971.

He is survived by daughter Rosemarie Rivera (fiancé Terrance Barry) and son Ricardo Rivera, granddaughters Layla and Symone, sister Agnes Sanchez (Jim), Rivera brothers Gilbert, Pete (Linda), Fred (Mickey), and Orlando. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Anna, Mary, Bennie, Cecilia, Viola, Maryann, and his brother Joe. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, dozens of cousins and many close friends.

Rich worked in construction and as a handyman most of his adult life. He was very charismatic with a wonderful sense of humor and contagious laughter. Richard was fiercely independent and lived his life as he wanted. He loved to play pool and travel, especially by motorcycle. He was always learning new trades, crafts, was well read, always willing to lend a helping hand and accepted people for who they were.
