Peter Babbitt Obituary

Peter Alan Babbitt, age 83, a former resident of Durango and most recently Brandon, Mississippi passed away on June 6, 2025. Pete was born in Brownwood, Texas on April 30, 1942, as was his twin sister Jacquelyn Ann. Pete's father, Benjamin Talbot (Tal) Babbitt and mother Frances Mae Hugunine, were in Texas awaiting Tal's departure to North Africa during WWII. Both Pete's parents were from upstate New York.

Pete graduated from Lindsay High School (California) in 1960 and almost immediately enlisted in the US Air Force. After attending his brother David's graduation from Fort Lewis College in 1971, Pete decided he too could, and should, earn a degree. Already a tech sergeant in the Air Force, Pete attained a Masters Degree in Computer Sciences and retired from the Air Force in 1993 as a Major.

Pete's time in Durango, while living with his brother David, were enjoyable. He spent significant time remodeling the home his parents had purchased after moving to Durango in 1961. Pete was a craftsman when it came to indoor and outdoor projects alike.

Pete's wife, Mary died in a drowning accident while vacationing in Florida in 2004. He is survived by his sons Sean (Kristie) and Aaron (Leslie), grandsons, Jesse and Jake and granddaughter Breanne, as well as a great granddaughter, Amelia. Pete's other surviving relatives include his twin sister, Jacque and brother David. Pete's younger sister Joan passed away in 2011.
