Patricia McCaddon Obituary

Durango resident Patricia A. McCaddon died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Four Corners Health Care Center. She was 90.

Mrs. McCaddon was born Dec. 2, 1919, to John and Gertrude Mullen in Chicago. She graduated from East High School in Denver in 1937.

Mrs. McCaddon had a beautiful soprano voice and attended the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver. She was president of the Sigma Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota National Music Fraternity and was a life member and recipient of the fraternity's Sword of Honor.

In 1951, she married George E. McCaddon in Denver.

Mrs. McCaddon was active in the Archdiocese of Denver, serving as president of the Parent Teacher Association at a parish school and becoming a life member after volunteering for 27 years with the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. She also served as president of the auxiliary's board of directors.

Pope Paul awarded Mrs. McCaddon the Papal Medal, Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, in 1965 for her dedication and involvement in these activities.

In 1967, she took on another volunteer role as president of the board of the Visiting Nurse Association for the Denver area.

"Her passion was the arts and classical music," her son, Damen McCaddon, said. "She was an avid movie enthusiast and could probably sing every song from the movies of the '30s, '40s and '50s."

Mrs. McCaddon also volunteered as a docent at the Denver Art Museum.

She moved to Durango in 1999.

Mrs. McCaddon was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, George McCaddon; and daughter Marsha Van Kirk.

She is survived by her son, Damen McCaddon, of Durango; daughter Sheila McCaddon of Fraser; and twin grandsons.

Private family services are planned at a later date.
