Pansy Veronica Lynch Boyd

Pansy Veronica Lynch Boyd died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, in San Diego. She was 91.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church, 203 S. Main St., in Mancos. The Rev. Pat Valdez will be the celebrant.

Known as "Pan," she was born to Benjamin Nicholas and Margaret Violet Lynch on Dec. 9, 1920, in Leadville. She was one of eight children.

Mrs. Boyd grew up in Leadville and then moved Denver, where she worked for the Rationing Board during World War II and met her future husband, Dorian "Bud" Boyd, who was a career Navy man. In 1949, the couple married in Boston.

Her husband was a proud survivor of the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, and the Boyds traveled to Hawaii to commemorate the anniversary on several occasions. During Mr. Boyd's career, the couple lived in Hawaii, Seal Beach, Calif., and San Diego.

Mrs. Boyd managed apartments the couple owned.

Because some of her siblings and nieces and nephews lived in Southwest Colorado, she often visited.

The Boyds enjoyed spending time with their longtime canine companions, Juno and Noni.

The Boyds owned a mountain get-a-way, "Snug Harbor," in Yellow Pine, Idaho.

"Bud would make the trip out each year right after Easter, Pan would join him in June, and they would treasure their time together until Labor Day," her family said. "This second home has also become a haven for the extended family, who, through Bud and Pan's generosity, were able to build a second cabin next door."

Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Bud Boyd.

She is survived by her sisters Bonita Ledford and Lenore Lynch, both of Santee, Calif.; eight nephews; five nieces; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and a "slew" of great-great nieces and nephews.

Cremation has occurred, and burial took place in San Diego.

A second memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 9310 Dalehurst Road in Santee. The Rev. Mike Cunnane will be the celebrant.
