Neoma Kasal Obituary

Former Durango resident Neoma Cleo Kasal died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at her home in Cortez. She was 81.

Mrs. Kasal was born to Harold and Cleo Margie (Legg) Greenstreet on March 12, 1931, in Ness County, Kan.

On Dec. 18, 1948, she married Duane W. Kasal in Durango. Mrs. Kasal lived in Durango from 1947 to 1997.

Mrs. Kasal worked several places, but she was probably best known as the head clerk at Safeway in the 1970s and early 1980s.

The Kasal family attended the First United Methodist Church of Durango and enjoyed off-roading in the mountains. In Cortez, Mrs. Kasal attended the Rock Springs Community Church.

"Neoma's family always came first," her family said. "She enjoyed time spent gardening and growing beautiful flowers. Neoma loved to travel and experience new places and sights."

Mrs. Kasal was preceded in death by her husband of almost 57 years, Duane Kasal.

She is survived by her children Duanne Ostrander and Cleo Gregg, both of Cortez, Lyle Kasal of Aeia, Hawaii, and Lois Miller of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; sister, Dell Wells, of Durango; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. No services are planned.
