Nancy Kaufman Obituary

1938 - 2017

Nancy Kaufman passed away on October 27, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, Texas, from complications following surgery. She was 79. Nancy was born to Anna Lou and Roy Grant on June 6, 1938, and was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Shirley Ann Robinson. She grew up on a farm in Hollister, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school. While in school, she participated in many sports and excelled in basketball. Nancy was a fabulous seamstress and she enjoyed making clothes for herself and her children. She also enjoyed making crafts and took pride in decorating her home. In her early married years, she learned to play golf-her husband's favorite hobby.

Nancy attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she met the love of her life, Jerry Max Kaufman from Olustee, Oklahoma. They were happily married for 59 years. Throughout their life together, they moved many times for Jerry's education and career, living in: Weatherford, Oklahoma; Midland, Texas; El Paso, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Durango, Colorado; Stillwater, Oklahoma; Wichita Falls, Texas; and Ada, Oklahoma. In their retirement, they resided in Burnet, Texas; The Woodlands, Texas, and finally League City, Texas to be close to their children and grandchildren.

Before children, Nancy worked in the Mortgage and Savings and Loan industry. When Garry and Kellie were born, she became a dedicated and loving mother. While mostly a stay-at-home mom, Nancy loved to contribute to the family and worked in many different capacities. These include: being a consultant with Avon, Mary Kay, and Color Me Beautiful, working as an assistant with Special Needs Children in the Wichita Falls School District, and in the infirmary at Midwestern State University.

Nancy volunteered her time with many different organizations in the community, including: The Boys and Girls Club, the Texas Blood Bank, and the First United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of PEO International Fraternal Organization, Wichita Falls Women's Forum, and the Faculty Dames at several universities.

As a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church, her faith was the centering anchor in her life. She loved the Lord and often shared her faith, which in turn, touched many lives.

Nancy Kaufman is survived by her beloved spouse, Jerry; her son Garry and daughter-in-law Melanie; daughter Kellie Cole and son-in-law Max; brothers John Grant and wife Jane, and David Grant and wife, Beverly; grandchildren Taylor, Carson, Rylan, and Kennedy Kaufman, and Austin and Carter Cole.

Nancy was an outgoing, compassionate, loving, and good humored wife, mother, sister, and friend. She loved deeply, was full of wisdom, and will be dearly missed.

Final arrangements for cremation have been made through J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home in Galveston, Texas.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on December 9, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church of Burnet, Texas.
