Nancy Giordano Obituary

Nancy Flora Giordano died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at her home in Pagosa Springs. She was 96. The cause of death was undisclosed.

Mrs. Giordano was born March 17, 1915, in Red Wing, a rural area of Huerfano County, Colo., to Sophia and Emmett King.

In 1938, Mrs. Giordano graduated from Adams State College and began a career as a first-grade teacher, spending more than 40 years touching the lives of her many students and fellow teachers in Pagosa Springs and Durango's Needham Elementary.

In 1940, she married Mike Giordano in Walsenburg. In 1950, they bought The Spa Motel and relocated their family to Pagosa Springs.

Mrs. Giordano and her husband retired in 1983 and spent the remaining years as "snowbirds," traveling to their second home in Yuma, Ariz.

Mrs. Giordano loved to dance, take walks, play dominoes, travel, eat sweets and watch basketball.

Mrs. Giordano was a member of many groups including: WHIPS, Colorado Territorial Daughters and Red Hat Ladies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Giordano, son Norman Giordano, and granddaughter, Gia Giordano.

Mrs. Giordano is survived by her son, Michael Giordano, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter, Marsha Preuit, of Pagosa Springs; four grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Lewis Street in Pagosa Springs. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church on North Pagosa Boulevard, Pagosa Springs.
