Michael Morriseey Obituary

Michael Paul Morrissey (Mike) passed away on October 17, 2024, in Durango, Colorado. Born to Jeff and Nikki Morrissey on December 29, 1967, he was a lifelong resident of Durango and a graduate of Durango High School and Fort Lewis College.

Mike dedicated his life to the service of others, working as a special education teacher and a youth wrestling coach. His commitment to enriching the lives of young people left a lasting impact across the state of Colorado.

Known for his ability to befriend anyone, Mike's warmth was unmistakable. He had a contagious passion for the outdoors, which he expressed through skiing in the winters and mountain biking in the summers. These activities not only illustrated his love for adventure, but also his desire to live life to the fullest with those he loved most.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jeff Morrissey, and is survived by his mother, Nikki Morrissey; daughter, Natalie (Drew) Manning; son, Luke Morrissey; brother, Patrick (Dena) Morrissey; and sister, Kristi (Ken) Sanchez. His life was a testament to the power of community and connection, leaving an enduring mark on everyone he met.

An intimate memorial service was held to honor Mike's life on Friday, October 25, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society.

Mike was truly singular in many ways. He had a lot of his Dads´s great intellect . He had his Mom´s great big heart . He helped so many students. He loved his siblings and family. Moreover, Mike felt deeply. He was intuitive, and cared so much about people. I always enjoyed visiting with him. His keen sense of humor often caught me off-guard. I am pretty sure Mike is with the angels continuing his quest for helping others. Sending my condolences and prayers to his beautiful mother Nikki and all his family and friends. Losing a beloved person too soon defies understanding. We must rely on our faith. We must always keep Mike´s memory alive. He did make our world a better place. May he rest in peace.

I have known Michael and his family most of my life, and a more special family, just doesn't exist. His dad was one of my first coaches, and Pat was my son's team mate. Nikki is a special woman, and an awesome mother. My heart aches for anyone that has known them, and they are in my prayers. God Blessed me to have known him.
