Michael Anthony Jakino, CPA
May 28, 1951- September 6, 2015
Long-time Farmington resident Michael A. Jakino, 64, died suddenly in a motorcycle accident September 6, 2015 while riding with his wife, Robin Jakino, north of Durango, Colorado. Robin was critically injured in the accident.
Mike was born on May 28, 1951 in Durango, CO to James C. and Lillian L. Jakino. He attended Durango High School, graduating in 1969, and then continued his education at Ft Lewis College, earning a degree in accounting. While obtaining his license as a CPA, he settled in Farmington and began his professional career at McGee & Associates, then began work with Jesco, and later continued his career as the Controller of Coleman Oil and Gas. In 1985, Mike joined Tom Solga, CPA, to form Solga & Jakino, PA. Mike was always proud of his profession and the firm he established with Tom, and took great pleasure in working with both the firm's staff and its clients. Tom and Mike worked diligently to establish the legacy of their firm based on the principle of exceptional client service and by maintaining the highest regard for professional integrity.
On September 17, 1971, Mike married Susan Rene Martin (deceased) in Durango. They had a son, Michael Brandon, in 1973, and a daughter, Summer Rene, in 1977. He later married Robin Kellogg Ross on June 3, 1989 in Farmington, NM.
Early in his life, Mike established a life-long commitment to community service. As a young man, he was a National Ski Patrolman and served in the Colorado National Guard. As a professional, he was a founding member of the San Juan Basin Chapter of CPAs, President of the Farmington Kiwanis Club, served on the Board of Sacred Heart Catholic School, was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was active in the Farmington Chamber of Commerce.
Both Mike and Robin were very dedicated to San Juan Regional Medical Center. Mike held a position on the Board of Directors from 2006-2012 and served as the Chairman of the Board from 2010-2012. Robin has served as a volunteer chaplain at San Juan Regional Medical Center for more than ten years. Dedication to the hospital and providing support for those in need was an integral part of the life they shared.
His love of life was full of activities, all of which were enjoyed with family and friends. Mike was an avid skier, golfer, and motorcyclist. Together Mike and Robin also enjoyed traveling, spending time with their five grandchildren, participating with their bible study group, and hiking in the Colorado mountains.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents James C. Jakino and Lillian L. Jakino, his brother L. Wayne Jakino, and his former spouse Susan Rene Martin-Jakino. He is survived by his wife of 26 years Robin K. Ross Jakino; brother Richard Jakino of Montrose, CO; sister Virginia Nanna of Durango, CO; his son, Michael Brandon Jakino, wife Janis and Brandon's children, Joshua, Riley and Olivia Jakino; Summer Jakino-Whistle and her husband Fred Whistle II and Summer's children, Colten and Dillon Creech, all of Farmington, NM; nieces and nephews include Candi Amaya and her husband, Tony; Jackie Day and her husband, Dusty; Tony Jakino and his wife, Deanna, all of Montrose, CO; Jeff Cooper and his wife, Liz, of Colorado Springs, CO; Kelly Moore and her husband, Rocky, of Farmington, NM; and many other dear family and friends.
Services are currently pending out of respect for Robin's critical condition in a Denver hospital. In honor of Michael, donations are being accepted for the San Juan Medical Foundation at P.O. Box 110, Farmington, NM 87499 or online at sanjuanmedicalfoundation.com .

I was on the highway the day of the accident traveling back to Durango. I seen the entire thing and cannot get it out of my thoughst. May god bless the family and hope Robin a fast recovery.
