It's been an honor to have been a part of Mike's life. As an oncology nurse I've seen many people travel down the road of cancer treatments, but never anyone quite like Mike. He was always brave and with a positive attitude. I already miss his smile! He taught us all to appreciate life and especially love. He allowed us to be a part of his journey with his heartfelt journalling. Wasn't he a great writer? What a privilege it has been to be a part of his life!

To Liz, Nikki, and the rest of Mike's Family:
I am a friend of Liz's. Her and I talked quite a bit about her brother Mike. I had a cousin also that we lost to ALL-Leukemia. The way that Liz talked about her brother let me know without ever meeting him that he was an amazing person. Liz had told me about the Caring Bridge site that her brother had and I went on there are read many posts. It was one of the most overwelming things I have ever read. Mike was so articulate with his words and still had a sense of humor facing a terrible disease. The things that I have also heard about Nikki are amazing. The love that clearly enveloped the two of you was a God send. Not many people ever do find love like that in this life. It breaks my heart to think that it will be some time before you are reunited again, but keep that in your heart-you will be reunited. Your soulmate will be healed when you see him again. I can not imagine the way you must feel inside, but know that Mike will always be with you, holding you up when you are weary. Liz also has spoken of her parents so fondly and told me how brave they really are to face this everyday. To care for their son, to make him feel happy, to make sure that he was comfortable; and yet knowing that as a parent you could not get rid of that disease for him. You both are already angels and please feel some peace knowing that your son, Mike, knew that you were angels also. I can not imagine the pain of lossing a child, but there was a greater power that felt Mike was needed now. God knew that Mike could not take anymore pain and it was time to take the pain away. Mike is going to be a special guardian angel to your whole family now. Liz, even though we no longer work at the same place, I have kept reading your brother's story. I am so sorry that this had to end this way. You are such a bright, funny lady and I know your brother had to be very much the same. I hope that God can offer you some support as you face the days ahead. They say that kids can see angels alot more then adults. I bet that Mike will visit Lucy every chance he gets. You may be surprised to hear the tings that she will say soon:) If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask me.

To the Howe Family and Nikki,
It has been such a pleasure to know Mike and your entire family, I knew the minute he stepped on 2West at Unity Hospital 5 years ago he was very special. I can not imagine the pain and heartbreak you are going through, it is immeasurable, I am so sorry. I wish there was something I could do to help take away your grief and anguish.
Mike was always so positive even during his sickest days, I was so honored to be his nurse, he taught me so much, not anything you can learn in nursing school!! Take Care,

Michael was a funny, friendly, kind, beautiful person. I met him several months ago, and in spite of everything he had been through, he continued to have a tremendous spirit for life. His wife is also amazing and it was my genuine pleasure to get to know them.
My thoughts are with you and your family and I truly believe that Michael now has achieved the peace and comfort that he had searched for, for so long. The support and outpouring of love from his friends and family truly reflect his impact on this world, and remind us of what his loss means.
He will be missed terribly.
