Mary Shearer Obituary

Mary Jo Shearer

Mary Jo Shearer, the mother of Durango resident Pat La May, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at her daughter's home in Durango. She was 95.

Mrs. Shearer was born to Lloyd L. Brown and Josephine Harrington Brown on June 14, 1916, in Steamboat Springs. She lived most of her life in Steamboat.

She graduated from the University of Colorado, where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority, continuing her association with the sorority's alumni organization through most of her adult life.

On June 17, 1939, she married Lowell Gehrung Shearer in Steamboat Springs. Mrs. Shearer was a homemaker.

She had lived in Aurora for 30 years before moving to Durango a year ago.

She was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization for more than 60 years, most recently with Chapter CA in Denver.

Mrs. Shearer was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Lowell Gehrung Shearer.

She is survived by her daughters Pat La May of Durango and Karen Kerlin of Aurora; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Cremation will occur. No local service will be held. A memorial service will be held this summer in Steamboat Springs, when her ashes will be buried next to her husband's.
