Mark Hanson Obituary

Lewis resident Mark Everett Hanson died of cancer Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at his home. He was 59.

Mr. Hanson was born to Paul and Thelma (Hichmott) Hanson on May 7, 1950, in Amarillo, Texas.

On April 21, 1973, he married Juanita Greenlaw in Sointula, British Columbia, Canada.

Mr. Hanson graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 1978. Four years later, he and his family moved to Southwest

Colorado.

He was a risk manager for Nielsons Skanska but always dreamed of opening a taxidermy shop.

Mr. Hanson was involved in the Dolores School District, serving on the school board and as a member of the Dolores

wrestling club.

In his free time, he enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing.

“Mark's family was central to his life, and he made sure to attend all of his kids' sporting events as they grew," his

family wrote.

Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife of 36 years, Juanita Hanson, of Lewis; sons Travis Hanson and Colton Hanson, both of

Cortez, David Hanson of Fort Collins and Chad Hanson of Denver; daughters Brigida Hernandez, Brianna Wyatt, Megan

Hanson and Chelsea White, all of Cortez, and Kelsey McNurlin of Riverside, Calif.; parents, Paul and Thelma Hanson, of

Cortez; brothers Stephen Hanson of Cortez and Jon Hanson, of West Branch, Iowa; and four grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at the First Assembly of God Church, 120 Linden St. in

Cortez. The Rev. Jerry Boschen will officiate. Burial will take place afterward at the Lewis Cemetery.
