Marianna Waroblak Obituary

Even titans fall. The dynamo and matriarch that was Marianna Waroblak was born on October 3rd, 1938 in Clarksburg, West (by God) Virginia and died on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 at Mercy Hospice House in Durango, Colorado at age 79. She was a poet, photographer, teacher, adventurer, artist, polyglot, Barbie collector, lover of polka dots, fiestaware aficionado, and a true force of nature. Her theme parties were legendary.

She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Dan Coey, and two brothers, Michael (Teddy) and Tim Waroblak. She is remembered by over a thousand adoring students and her poodle, Zoro.

Marianna was educated at West Virginia University, University of Pittsburgh, and Western State College in Gunnison. She lived and breathed as a teacher at Colorado Timberline Academy for 40 years, which made for a teaching career that spanned 50 years. Her roles at CTA included teaching French, Spanish, photography, yearbook, and Philosophy of Life. She led teenagers on trips to Mexico, France, Denmark, Japan, and on backpacking trips through the Weminuche Wilderness and the canyon country of Utah. She was a true mentor.

Indomitable is too subtle a word for her lust for life. To say Marianna will be missed is an understatement--we thought she would outlive us all. She died at age 79 of illness related to cancer. A date and location to celebrate Marianna's life will take place later in the year. To best honor Marianna's memory, please donate to the Mercy Hospice House in Durango at www.mhffnd.org.

We had many a caper together and she was always game. Came out to Aspen and on to Durango . I came back to WV and she stayed with Dan. She visited us and always kept us on her adventures with her annual MeriNotes illustrated letters. She and her mom Eleanor were true friends. Mike

Marianna was a good pal on many capers all over. Mom Eleanor let me sleep on their back porch when I needed a refuge. Tim was a winner on my swim team and a WV state diving champion, The Waroblaks knapsack was on my back all over Europe. She was Dan's joy. There was only one Marianna. Mike Snyder

My dear sweet sister-in-law. You were so kind and loved my son Eric as he was part of your family. You left us too quickly. I am grateful that I had some time to be with you in June this past spring. Always in our hearts.

To Dan,
My arms are around you with heartfelt sympathy! Marianna has been a dear friend since the early 70's in Durango. She was an inspiration, a gift to me, as to her many students and friends locally and world wide. I will miss her so, her most informative Xmas handwritten letters, her humor, her incredible spirit and outlook on life.
RIP MY DEAR FRIEND!

Our sincere condolences to Dan, Tim, and Ted. I knew Marianna from childhood. She was truly one of a kind who never forgot her friends. She loved Dan and their life together in Colorado yet always held on dearly to her West Virginia heritage.

Love Marianna so much! She was such a positive force in my life. And she was so creative and smart. But I think what I loved most about her was her silliness. She was endlessly amused by how goofy we all were and would burst in these broad grins and fill the room with her infectious laugh. I miss her dearly already.
