Lucy Smith Obituary

Lucy Ann Smith entered the kingdom of heaven on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. She will be deeply missed, because her sincere faith and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ has made a lasting, forever impact in this world. Her name captures the essence of her being: "Bringer of Light." Lucy was a bringer of God's light and love to others. She had a smile that would light up a room and she had a hug and kind, loving word for everyone. Lucy Ann (Cremean) Smith, beloved daughter of Alva and Margaret (Miller) Cremean and sister to Alice (Cremean) Rucker and Robert Cremean, was born on July 26, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio. She loved going fishing and to the Toledo Zoo with her dad and playing piano. She graduated from Libbey High School and Michigan State University. In 1951, she received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. At a picnic in 1952, she met the love of her life, Wilbur Wendell Smith (Smitty). They were married in Toledo on January 16, 1954. For 16 years they raised their 4 lovely daughters: Janet Ellen (Wilson), Kathy Lynn (Creviston), Dianne Marie (Bolger) and Nancy Renee (Gifford), on a farm in Athens, Michigan. In 1970, they moved to beautiful Durango, Colorado. Lucy taught kindergarten at Riverview Elementary School for 20 years. The summer of 1971, she received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her love for Jesus was

the beautiful beginning of the rest of her life. First Baptist Church in Durango was her church home. She enjoyed Sunday morning worship services and classes, numerous Bible studies, and prayer ministry. Lucy mentored many young wives and mothers on how to love God and their families well. She was active in Child Evangelism Fellowship 5 Day Clubs. After retirement, she volunteered at Sunshine Gardens and Crisis Pregnancy Center, and served as a Bible Study Fellowship leader. She wrote beautiful cards of encouragement, listened and cared, and prayed with and for anyone with a need. She graciously put others before herself. In 2008, her beloved Smitty passed away, after 54 years of marriage. In 2013, Lucy moved to Tucson, AZ, where she resided at La Cholla Country Club for 3 years. She enjoyed playing Euchre, Book Club, Balance Class and Bible Study there. Lucy deeply loved and cared about her husband, 4 daughters, 4 sons-in-law, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Each one knew that Lucy was praying faithfully through difficult times and is forever grateful for her wonderful legacy. Lucy's physical presence will be greatly missed in this world but we rejoice that she is now with the God she lived for. A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church in Durango, Colorado this summer.

My life was one of the ones Lucy touched! We were in a longtime Bible Study together and then remained good friends when we all went our separate ways. She always had a warm hug, a big smile, and a word of encouragement. Her love for the Lord was apparent in all that she did. I loved this sweet lady and she will be missed greatly!

Hi, this is Cameron Dodd. I just want to say that Lucy will be greatly missed. I loved stopping by their house for popcorn and just to talk. I enjoyed shoveling snow for them and helping whenever i could. The heavens gained a beautiful angel and I know she will watch over all of us.

I so enjoyed volunteering with Lucy at the Pregnancy Center. She had such a warm heart for all the women who's lives she touched. The Beth Moore studies, suppers we had, treasured memories for certain. I really enjoyed being at her table when First B had their Christmas Women's get together. Such a blessing the time spent with her. I know she's grinning ear to ear with Jesus and Smitty now. I take comfort in that. What a woman she was! Love you my dear friend!!!!

Lucy Smith was a gift to this world. I am friends with all of her daughters, and she was an excellent mother. She offered many kindnesses to her daughter's friends. Lucy and her husband, Wendell reached out to my friend Vonnie and me, when we accompanied her daughter Janet to Europe. Lucy was so thoughtful and helpful to our mothers as we embarked upon this trip. Lucy was a Christian, who walked the walk, and she is now with her Savior, Jesus. Lucy made the world a better place during her time here, and I will never forget her.

My family and I are sending our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the Lucy's family.
