Lucy Lora Obituary

Former Ignacio resident Lucy Ellen Lora died in Fredericksburg, Va., on Sunday, May 10, 2009. She was 92.

Mrs. Lora was born to James R. and Mae Matticks Crim in Edina, Mo., on July 10, 1916.

She was a self-employed baker and confectioner for about 60 years.

During the 12 years she lived in Ignacio, from the mid-1980s to the

late 1990s, she won numerous ribbons for her baked goods and candy at

the La Plata County Fair. Her family said she always made sure her many

friends got plenty of samples.

"I never met a person who Lucy did not love or who did not love her in return," her son, D.M. Bear Lora wrote.

Mrs. Lora was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil M. Lora; and stepsons Virgil M. Lora Jr. and Richard C. Lora.

She is survived by her son, D.M. Bear Lora, of Colonial Beach, Va.; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Cremation has occurred. A memorial service will be held by her family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a children's charity of one's choice.
