Lou Wright Obituary

Lou Ray Wright passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 73 years old. On Feb 1, 2018 she was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma and had a short battle in which she lost.

Lou Ray was born June 3, 1944 to Ray and Laurena Harper in Boulder, Colorado. She attended and graduated from Boulder High School in 1962. In the following years she had 5 daughters. She started as a secretary in a real estate firm and quickly moved her way up to owning her own property management company. She married Don DeWitt and they combined families December 1979. In 1980 she opened Pennant Investment Company with two colleagues. She was involved in the real estate community and was a member of the Boulder Area Realtor Association and acted as president of the board from 1991. She moved to the Vallecito Lake area in 1992. Her and her husband, Don DeWitt, owned and operated Shorty's Marina until 1997. Soon thereafter she owned and operated Durango Property Management until 2000. She was also a member of the Durango Area Association of Realtors. Despite being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 1990 she continued to thrive both professionally and personally. In her semi-retirement she enjoyed traveling, volunteering at her church, golfing, skiing, fishing, driving and meeting new people. She is survived by her husband, Don DeWitt, daughters, Leane Wright, Joella Wright, Dawn Wright, Lanette Hartman and Tricia Craig, grandchildren Miles, Madeline, Laurena, Molly, Cole, Harper, Lexi, Hallie, Noah, Regan, Kalvin and Brittanie, sisters June Paquette and Beverly Parsons.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ray and Laurena Harper, daughter Bonnie Wright, brother Jimmy Harper and sister Merle Harper Frierson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 1 pm at Calvary Presbyterian Church (Mill Street, Bayfield). There will be a second Celebration of Life Service at Valmont Presbyterian Church in Boulder, Colorado at a later date. Memorial contributions may be sent to KSUT Public Radio, Operation Christmas Child, or Calvary Presbyterian Church. The family would like to express their sincere and loving gratitude for the care that their wife, mother, grandmother and sister received at Four Corners Rehabilitation Center.
