Lois Williams Obituary

Durango resident Lois Leona Dean Williams died from a recently diagnosed brain tumor on Sunday, July 12, 2009. She was 76.

Known as "Gamma" and "Auntie Lo," she was born to Roscoe and Nettie Dean in Dumas, Texas, on July 7, 1933.

On Aug. 31, 1956, she married Roger Williams in Texas.

Mrs. Williams lived in several states throughout her life and had lived in Georgetown, Texas, for the last 10 years.

She was active in the First United Methodist Church in Georgetown and volunteered at The Caring Place, a thrift store and food bank for needy families.

"Lois embraced life," her family wrote.

She walked every day, practiced yoga and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. She also loved world travel, visiting places such as China, Australia, Europe and Central America.

"Most of all, Lois dearly loved her grandchildren, nieces and nephews," her family said.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Roger Williams, in October 2008.

She is survived by her sons Bruce Williams of Durango and Bradley Williams of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister, Carolyn Carmichael, of Houston; two granddaughters; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nurturing Parent Program and Healthy Child Program, c/o San Juan Basin Health Department, P.O. Box 140, Durango, CO 81302.
