My whole 10 year ignacio experience (1973-1983) was rich and wonderful. Liva was there to help me get started and stayed for the long haul. We worked side by side for about 9 years. One of our valuable projects was Meals on Wheels. At first we took turns (Liva, Carmen, Sally, Margaret, Manuel, Claudette and myself) cooking and delivering the meals. Many other wonderful workers came in to the center later: Some were Phoebe, Hazel, Joyce, Margie, Gisela, Freddie, Robert & many others. We also had potlucks once a month at the Senior Center, which I think everyone loved. Since I've been on the subject of food, I decided to include a photo of Roberta and me having supper in our home in Cortez. Writing this and adding a photo is a bit tricky for a guy who is very nearly 85 - I hope it works. Liva would have liked Roberta's supper of steak, masked potatoes and gravy, green beans, etc. Liva and Carmen were such great cooks. I miss both of them a lot. And Margaret Silva made my favorite enchilada with black olives. So, so good.

Receiving this e-mail brought up many happy memories of Liva. We worked together at the Senior Center in Ignacio for many years. She helped me begin to understand the community with its traditions and ways of getting things done. Together, we faced many problems and situations which needed an understanding
heart. Both she and Carmen Cordova were an inspiration. They always looked for the appropriate and the kind way to handle every situation. I miss both of them.

Liva was one of the first friends I made in Ignacio in the late 1960's. I miss standing beside you in the choir. We sang for many weddings, funerals, midnight masses and Sunday masses side by side for years. Your garden and your burritos come to mind. You were always so loving to my kids. We were both busy moms raising our kids. We both had so many boys and only one girl. We had so much in common. You truly were one of my best friends. God be with you my dear friend.

Love,
Martha Archuleta

Liva, Chris and my dear, friend Christina, opened their home to me during my junior year of high school. I had the honor of living on the Pacheco farm with their wonderful family. Liva was truly my 2nd mom. She treated me just like her own and was extremely generous and kind. I learned many life lessons from this beautiful lady including: faith, speaking my mind-even if my opinion wasn't popular, being a strong, independent woman, service to community and making my family a priority. I feel so blessed to have been a part of this lovely lady's life. I know in my heart that there is a place in God's kingdom for Liva. I will miss you, "mom." I feel better knowing you will be up there praying for all you loved on this earth. And if there's a choir, I am certain you will be front and center leading the way.

Love,
Nina

Dear Pacheco Family,
It was my privilege to work beside Liva for nine years (1973-1982) at the Senior Citizen's Center in Ignacio. I was a complete stranger when I arrived here. Liva introduced me to the whole Ignacio/Southern Ute Community. Without her my job would have been much more difficult. With her wisdom, kindness and support we made it through many interesting and adventurous times at the Center. Liva worked hard for all the low-income people and the elderly people in the area. She and Louis Valencia tried to teach me Spanish, with not too much success, but we always had a hilarious time of it. What a great loss of a talented and loyal and hard-working person. We need lots more Livas in our world. Roberta and I send our blessings to her family and friends.

Aunt Liva you always welcomed us into your home and feed us well. You definately were a card shark. I do remember riding horses at your place and dropping the reins and falling off. Of course I landed on my head. RIP

I was a honor to have known Mrs. Pacheco. She would always call me up in July to see if I could be a judge for the St. Ignacio Parade. She was a lovely and kind woman: she will be missed!
