Linda Geer Obituary

IN MEMORY OF LINDA BROWN GEER OCTOBER 22, 1948 - APRIL 16, 2023

"May there be comfort in knowing someone so special will never be forgotten" (Julie Herbert, Playwright)

Linda Geer was a Renaissance woman. She was a creative jewel of multifaceted talents and skills. Linda excelled at most things she set her mind to. Including rebuilding her brick home with her husband, Jon, and still remaining married. Designing several of the great Snowdown posters and owning her own graphic design business. Singing at Carnegie Hall with the Durango Choral Society. Becoming a prize winning fiber artisan making her own patterns and knitting custom baby blankets for every niece and nephew. And most importantly, while a ski instructor at Purgatory, hooking the heart of Jon Geer "by throwing snowballs repeatedly at his head".

Linda was a woman of joy. She showed it with her beautiful voice as a soprano singing the highest notes in the Durango Women's Choir, St. Mark's Church Choir and the Durango Choral Society. Lofty music for a woman that grew up singing and dancing to Soul Train and could belt out The Lumberjack song with the best of them.

Linda showed her joy in color and style. Knitting was taken to new levels with lace, beads and pizazz. To own a piece of her work is to have an heirloom. She was also gracious enough to share her knowledge with friends and strangers while she worked at various yarn stores in Durango.

Movement was joyful for Linda. She loved to swim in cold mountain lakes. She filled a bucket list item swimming with dolphins and sea turtles in Mexico. She was a beautiful skier, ran a marathon, and danced country swing.

Her heart belonged to her cats, Otis and Squirt. And, of course, to Jon.

Linda was also a woman of pride. She was proud of her part in the music community. She was proud of her involvement in Durango on the Planning Commission. She was proud of the life she created with Jon.

Linda will be remembered for her lovely humor, her love of gardening and baking her chocolate cakes, beautiful 4th of July pies and festival favorite "Bach" lava. She delighted with her brilliant smile, her boisterous laugh, and her penchant for silly croquet matches. She was not a boring woman. The most boring thing about Linda was being married to Jon for 32 years.

Our beautiful Linda fought a difficult four-year battle with reoccurring cancer and slipped away on April 16, 2023.

Her family and friends will miss her terribly.

A celebration of Linda's life will be held on Thursday, May 4th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Avenue, Durango, CO. Following the service, a reception will be held in St. Mark's Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her memory be made to Mercy Hospice and/or the American Cancer Society.

Linda is survived by her husband, Jon Geer, and all the Geer Clan, along with her sisters Carol Ault and Nancy Wiersma and all of their families.

The family offers their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Mercy Hospice as well as friends and neighbors for their love and support during Linda's illness.

Linda and my mom, Dusty, were friends in the 80's and I remember Linda's beautiful plant Gloriana, I believe. We visited Linda at her office and it seemed that her plant owned at least half of the real estate in her office. Linda was always kind to us and my mom treasured her friendship.

I remember visiting with Linda to check up on Willie, the Australian Shepard, who I wasn´t sure anyone would keep. He was terrified of thunder and that was all we had that summer. Linda had already bonded with him and I could see he would have a good home. In fact it was the best home! Rest in peace Linda.
