Lillian Logan Obituary

Durango resident Lillian Adeline Tiffany Logan died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at Mercy Regional Medical Center. She was 90.

Mrs. Logan was born to Emory and Pauline Pistor Tiffany on Jan. 22, 1920, in Telluride. Her early years were spent in mining camps in Colorado, Arizona, California and Utah as her father pursued his career as a mining engineer and assayer. She attended first grade and twelfth grade in Silverton, her years in between in Durango, and a short period at Fort Lewis College at the Old Hesperus Campus.

After the death of her father, Mrs. Logan and her brother, Emory, came to Durango to live with their grandparents George and Lillian Tiffany, who owned the Tiffany Drug Store and Tea Room on Main Avenue.

In 1939, Mrs. Logan went to work for Woolworth's Five and Dime and stayed until 1944, when she enlisted in the Navy. She was stationed at Fort Myer Military Community in Washington, D.C. In 1946, she was honorably discharged with the rank of baker 3rd class. Returning to Durango, she worked as a baker and cake decorator at New York Bakery.

On April 12, 1947, she married W. Malcolm "Mickey" Logan at the First Presbyterian Church of Durango. She was a homemaker and mother, helped with office work at the family business, Rocky Mountain Electric Service and was caretaker for her grandmother.

"Lillian always had a kind word for all she met and was a good listener for those in need," her family wrote. "She helped her elderly neighbors with their summer yard work and shoveled snow. She loved to bake and shared it. Caring for her family was first above her needs. She was determined that all creatures in her yard would not go away hungry."

Her family said Mrs. Logan could plant a garden after the Fourth of July, and the corn would always make it.

Mrs. Logan was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Mickey Logan.

She is survived by her daughters Beth McCoy and Virginia Snow, both of Durango; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one niece and two nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at the Veteran's Memorial at Greenmount Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the La Plata County Humane Society, 1111 South Camino del Rio, Durango, CO 81303.
