Lillian Duran Obituary
Ms. Duran was born Nov. 17, 1941, in Ignacio, to Andres and Lucy Duran. The family lived in Durango, and later moved to Ignacio, where Ms. Duran graduated from high school. Family members said she later completed one year at Fort Lewis College.
Ms. Duran's family said she never married, and dedicated her life to family.
She enjoyed an extensive banking career, beginning at age 18 with Bank of Ignacio. She eventually was employed by most banks in Durango, most recently by Federal Land Bank. Family said that to banks' customers, Ms. Duran was a familiar face behind the counter, and she greatly enjoyed her work and responsibilities.
Her family said her last job before retiring was working as a clerk for the La Plata Assessor's office.
During her youth, her family said, Ms. Duran had a deep love for softball, rejoicing in the team play and rivalries it fostered. She also was a skilled bowler who often bowled strikes. Her family said Ms. Duran also loved the new Sky Ute Casino, where she could frequently be found in front of the "Big Bertha" machine.
Ms. Duran is preceded in death by parents, Andres and Lucy Duran, and her brothers Orlando and Rudy Duran.
She is survived by her life partner, Martin Swanemyr of Durango; brothers Andy Duran, Jr. of Port Angeles, Wash., Chris Duran, Jack Duran and Mike Duran of Ignacio; sisters Corinne Trujillo of Colorado Springs, Martha Palomino of Moreno Valley, CA., Eileen Candelaria and Yolanda Duran of Ignacio; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation has occurred. A recitation of the Rosary will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at 1 p.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at St. Ignatius.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made in Ms. Duran's name to Hospice of Mercy, 1 Mercado St., Suite 270, Durango, CO 81301.
