Kenneth Franklin Obituary

Born October 31, 1948 in Orange, TX to Sherill Franklin & Ruby Franklin. He passed away November 4, 2016 in Littleton, Co. He attended Lamar University & pursued a degree in Music and Sociology when he met the love of his life, Christie. They married on September 3rd, 1971. In the early years of their marriage Ken and Christie had always dreamed of living in the mountains of Durango, Co. This dream came true in 2012 as they frequently said, "it's truly heaven on earth here". In January 1971 he joined the United States Marine Corp Reserves. At an early age he had a passion for music, skiing, and horseback riding; especially in recent years with his children & grandchildren. He loved hiking, jeep touring, boating, working in the yard & being with his wife & family. Additionally, He had a passion for rescuing dogs. He had saved 2 special rescue dogs, Ben & Bo who are still members of our family today. Ken is survived by his wife Christie, son Robert, daughter Julie & son in law, Michael; grandchildren, Lauren, Brooke, Jonathan, & Sarah. He lived his life loving Jesus Christ & working to live a life that was pleasing to Him. A Celebration of Life Service to honor Kenneth Lynn Franklin will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 10a.m. in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Southeast Texas Veterans Group, P.O. Box 12352 Beaumont, Texas 77726, the Marine Corp League, P.O. Box 1679, Groves, TX 77619 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or by visiting their webpage at www.cancer.org The family would like to extend a huge thank you to all, family & friends, who loved him so much & were such a special part of his life. A special thank you to our cousins, Joe Eskew & Cathy Eskew who stayed by our side in the recent hospitalizations & brought Ken & our family tremendous love, joy & support.

The Bridge City class of 1967 is gathered this weekend for our 50th year reunion. So many loving conversations about Kenneth last night, as I'm sure there will be tonight, as well. Missing his presence, but he is held close in love and memories.

I'm so sorry to learn of Ken's passing. He and I worked together at Exxon for several years. We shared a lot of conversations about trips to the Durango area and I'm happy he was able to achieve his dream of living there after retirement. Sincere condolences to family.

To the Franklin Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

Ken was a dear friend throughout high school. He always was smiling and friendly with everyone. His Christian faith was always evident. God's Word will comfort you as you know Ken believed in Jesus Christ as his Savior who died and rose again to give Ken eternal life.
Blessings to all your family.

Friends since elementary school, comrades in the marching band, reconnected through the wonder of Facebook. Kenneth, you were so sweet, so loving, so kind and so generous. The thing I loved most about you was how much you loved the two most important things in your life: Your Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, and your precious family.

You were a wonderful friend and listener, and your words were such a comfort when Curtis was so ill. Have faith, you said. I did, and you were right.

Now I have faith in the joy of the Ressurection. We will see you in that great good day.

Christie, Julie & Robert, may God bless you & keep you and grant you His Peace in your grief.

Ken did and will always hold a special place in the hearts of the Corbett's. He was such a loving and kind man who was truly a friend and a huge support to our family through all of our trials. A man of faith who loved his family more than his being. Lived life to the fullest and always brought smiles to our faces. Surrounding the Franklin family in loving prayers and support and sending much love and light. Love never dies. RIP Ken. You are loved and will truly be missed.

On Behalf of the Corbett Family.

Kenneth was always such a sweet classmate. Forever with a smile and chuckle. He lived life as we all should--enjoying every minute to the fullest. I have enjoyed our Durango banter the last few years. Glad he skiied Divnity for me and sent the video. What a treasure! He will be missed by all who we're blessed to know him. Prayers for his sweet family.

Ken was such a special person. I was fortunate enough to know him through Christie his wife our cousin. I recently was able to reconnect with him through Facebook and share in all of his adventures. It was obvious he enjoyed life and his time in Durango to the fullest and I feel fortunate to have been able to witness his joy for life!

My mind has been whirling with thoughts of Ken and the many years of insults we shared with each other. Now that might not sound very nice to people who don't know the two of us, but we knew that behind every zinger was a bond of friendship, trust, love, & laughs. We shared many things over the years with Ken & Christie: family events, meals, a seat & conversation, serious business & monkey business, dog appreciation, a ride in the mountains & boat ride on the lake, skiing, family pictures, the ups & downs of life, but most importantly, a friendship that spanned so many years. One thing Roland & I especially admire most about Ken was his deep and true love for family and friends. He opened his heart and his home to both. When someone was in need, he was there. He cared and he shared. We will miss Ken, but will never forget the friendship & memories we shared. Sending love your way dear friend, Kathy & Roland Rottweiler

Ken was one of my dearest friends who loved life as much as anyone I've ever met. When we were together, we laughed so much I would get sore. He also loved music and a couple of years ago he asked me to collaborate with him on writing a song. He gave me some notes he had written and I put them together the best I could to convey the message he wanted. After a few discussions and minor changes, this is what we came up with. I believe it shows that he was a man of great faith who trusted God to order his footsteps.
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path" Psalm 119:105

Chair By the Lake
(c) 2015 Ken Franklin/Larry Carr
Key of E Major

Lord it's just me and you
And my old shepherd dog Blue
Here on our chair by the lake

Sittin' here on the dock
The place where we like to talk
As the sun says goodbye to the end of day

(Chorus)
And Lord I know, you've got a plan
Cause nothin' escapes your sovereign hand
And Lord, I'm weak, would you strengthen my faith
I'm lookin' to you, to let me know what to do
Here on our chair by the lake

As the dusk turns to night
A comet pierces the sky
As if you'd just shown me a sign

That every time I have strayed
From the path that you laid
You've ordered my footsteps back to the line

(Chorus)
And Lord I know, you've got a plan
Cause nothin' escapes your sovereign hand
And Lord, I'm weak, would you strengthen my faith
I'm lookin' to you, to let me know what to do
Here on our chair by the lake

Lord it's just me and you
And my old shepherd dog Blue
Here on our chair,
This old wooden chair
Every day we meet there
At our favorite chair by the lake
By the lake

Ken was a very special person and loving friend. I will miss him but know the Lord has special plans for him. He brought a lot of laughter into my life and for that I am grateful. His zest for life was infectious so I will hold onto that as I move forward in my life; thank you my friend. Until we meet again!
