Ken Canterbury Obituary

Ken Canterbury passed away peacefully, June 22, 2018. Born, May 25, 1931, in Trinidad, CO to Rueben and Hersa Canterbury. He lived in Aguilar, CO until age 18. He then moved to La Plata County with his father, where they made their living farming and ranching.

In 1952, Ken joined the United States Air Force. During the Korean War, he was stationed in Guam. He was a very proud veteran! After he was discharged, he moved back to La Plata County with his father. On June 7, 1958, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Jackson. They were married for nearly 45 years.

Ken was (as he called it) a, "Jack of all trades." He could fix anything! He worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Company, he was a route manager. He worked for La Plata County Road and Bridge. He was a welder and transport driver. Ken later went into his own dump truck business. He often said that was his favorite job, but his heart was always in the farming and ranching life style! He was a very kind and gentle man.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; Father, Rueben Canterbury; Mother, Hersa Thomas and brother; Clifford Canterbury. He is survived by sons, Michael (Jan), Kenny (Becky), Kevin (Sheila); 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 10am at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 E. 3rd Ave., Durango, with burial to follow at Greenmount Cemetery.
