Katie Dunn Obituary

Katie Louise Dunn, age 47, daughter of John Dunn and Barbara Dunn, passed away on August 5, 2025 at her home in Vallecito Lake.

Katie was born on March 25, 1978, at old Mercy Hospital in Durango and grew up with remarkable talents and skill in both swimming and skiing. As a summer club member of the Durango Sailfish club, her name appeared next to many pool records across the western slope. Her butterfly record as a member of the Durango High Schol Team, stood for more than 10 years. She was part of the team that took district championships.

Skiing was a lifelong passion. Under the coaching of Reudi Bear, she was the undisputed champion in her age group. At nine years old, she won the women's "Bump off" at Purgatory Ski Resort.

Katie attended culinary arts school in Denver, sharing her many talents there and at family gatherings.

Later, she pursued a career in welding, but her path was tragically cut short by an industrial accident that left her disabled and living in constant pain for the past 17 years. She continued enjoying welding by repurposing old metal relics into metal art.

She is survived by her parents, John and Barbara Dunn; sister Sarah Dunn; niece Ivy Rogers and, Nephew Corbin Rogers and grandmother Mary Jane Hood.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Melissa Dunn in 2014.

A true Durango Native with a generous spirit and huge heart, Katie will be missed.

At her request no services will be held.
