Katherine Maestas Obituary

On Sunday, February 5th, Katherine (Kat) Elizabeth Maestas, a life long Durango resident, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend passed away with her children by her side after a brief and fierce fight with cancer. Kat was born on June 19, 1947 to Juanita and Ross Valdez.

She is survived by her children Paulette Arizmendi, Ron Martinez, Derrik Martinez, and Claudia Martinez. Also survived by grandchildren Erik Hansen, Wraylee Arizmendi, Aurora Arizmendi, and multiple great grandchildren.

I worked at City Market with her as a bag boy when I was just 17. She was the kindest and I would always try to get in her line so I could chat with her. We used to talk for hours some days in the smoking room at City Market South.
Kindest woman I ever met. Much love

Memories of my Aunt Kat are filled with slumber parties, blanket tents, letting me drive her car at 13 and showing me how to shave my legs. I remember her patience, her kindness and her laughter. Her door was always open and I slept so comfortable at her house. What a beautiful wonderful lady she was. My heart goes out to Paulette, Ron, Derrick and Blue.
