Julie Crawford Obituary

Julie Ann Crawford, 65, of Cortez, Colorado died 10/14/2023. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones in Colorado Springs after a valiant fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Julie was born in Durango, Colorado to Homer E. Hartley and Wilma M. Hartley nee Exon. She grew up in Hesperus and lived in Southwest Colorado most of her life. Julie spent her time enjoying the Southwest and also loved visiting the Pacific Northwest and the Coastal Redwoods. Her career included more than twenty years at Fort Lewis College and, most recently, she worked as a Legal Secretary in Cortez.

Family and friends were incredibly important to Julie. She made it a point to stay in contact with both close and extended relatives, whom she cherished. She loved to go on long drives and go motorcycle riding with her partner, Don White. She was always thinking of her loved ones wherever she went and would pick up unique and thoughtful gifts to share. Julie loved reading, fairies, music, dry humor, special nicknames, and sharing her experiences with those she loved. She always gardened and had the most beautiful flowers and vegetables. She canned fruits and vegetables and shared her homegrown goods with everyone.

Julie is survived by her children, Homer Moore (Christie), Shamaree Ramirez (Juan), and Katie Meyer (Cody), two brothers, Joe Hartley and Matthew Hartley, many nephews, nieces and 9 wonderful grandchildren that she loved ever so much. Julie is also survived by her friend, travel companion, and wonderful partner, Don White. She gave us comfort and love and will be missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be planned for Julie this coming spring, details will be forthcoming.

I knew and admired Julie in High School. A kind, quiet spirit who thought of others. I accidentally bumped into her while being a tourist from Oregon when she was working at a retail on downtown Main and had a great chat. Marilyn Conway and I communicate and she gave me the sad news while Julie was in hospice...then recently. She leaves a lasting legacy and will be greatly missed by those of us schoolmates far away.

Julie, our good times memories are forever in my heart . Camping in the LaPlatas, hiking the dried river bed, silly junior high days, to name a few. Such amazing strength and love you shared with others. Thank you for your friendship.

My heart is broken from the loss of someone so special to me, so unique and full of life. They say that time heals all. That death is a part of the circle of life. There are simply no words to express how deeply I will always love and miss you my sweet, brave cousin Jewels.

I enjoyed getting to spend so much time with Julie. In our younger years we spent alot of time together. We used to have such fun together. I am going to miss our birthday messages to each other in December.
Julie, I love you and am going to miss you for the rest of my days.
