Juanita Gallegos Obituary

Juanita Gallegos passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, peacefully at her home in Durango Colorado.

Juanita was born on November 3, 1944 to John and Matilda Gallegos of Durango. She was the oldest of 13 children. She was raised in Durango Colorado where she graduated from Durango High School, she remained in Durango her entire life.



Juanita married Fernando Gallegos on April 24, 1965 and they shared 60 years together until her death. Together they raised 3 children. She earned her associates degree in nursing, where she served as a dedicated LPN for over 30 years. She was awarded Colorado Nurse of the Year in 1989. She took an early retirement in 2007 to help care for her mother. She was a very caring women who loved and cherished her family and friends deeply.

Juanita enjoyed life's simpler pleasures; reading, baking, tending to her houseplants, and traveling with her kids. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Juanita is deeply missed, survived by her husband, Fernando Gallegos, her children; Kenny Gallegos, Christi (Charlie) Brennan, and Kathy (Abel) De La Ossa, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 9 siblings, and countless relatives and friends.

She is proceeded in death by her mother Matilda, her father John, Infant son Joseph, infant sister Maria, brother Mark, and sister Denise.

Rosery will be recited at 9:30 am on Saturday August 30th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, services will follow at 10:00 am. Burial at Greenmount Cemetery. Reception to follow at Sacred Heart Parish Hall.
