Joyce Mitchell Obituary

The mother of Durango resident Toni Jancar, Joyce M. Mitchell, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Ill. She was 75.

Mrs. Mitchell was born Oct. 27, 1933, in Granite City, Ill., the daughter of Peter A. and Irene (Conlin) Argelan. She had worked in public relations at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Granite City for 14 years and retired in 2003 from Children's Home and Aid Society of Illinois after five years of service with the child care subsidiary.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she was active with the Senior Circle group. Her family wrote that she was an avid reader and artist and will be remembered for the love of her family and friends.

She is survived by daughters Toni Jancar of Durango, Lynda Pyles of Grandin, Mo., Mary Adams of Troy, Ill., and Patti Mitchell of Granite City; son, Michael Mitchell of Nampa, Idaho; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two infant sisters and one great-grandson.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City with the Rev. Larry Brunette as celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, Ill.

Memorial donations to Holy Family Catholic Church will be accepted at Irwin Chapel.
