Josette Chacon Obituary

Josette Chacon, 58, a lifelong resident of Durango passed away peacefully on August 19, 2022, surrounded by her beloved family.

Josette was born in Durango on October 28, 1963 to Max and Joyce Chacon. She went to Needham Elementary, Miller Middle School and graduated from Durango High School. She then completed 2 years at Fort Lewis College. She met her high school sweetheart Dane Mestas and together they had a son and daughter. She went on to work for South City Market, Griego's, Colorado Land Title and Francisco's Restaurant, to name a few.

She devoted her life to raising her 2 children and 4 grandchildren. She was not just a mother, but a grandmother, wife, best friend, Aunt, niece, and cousin. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends. She loved country music, reading books, playing cards, watching her Lifetime movies, camping and the outdoors. She was a proud mom and grandma watching her kids and later grandkids play sports. She was kind hearted, an amazing cook, very strong willed and had a smile that could light up any room. She was very passionate in her Catholic faith, warm hearted and welcoming, even if you were a stranger, she would befriend you and help out in any way she could, even before helping herself. She enjoyed her morning coffee and her talks with Jesus. She would always greet you with a hug and a kiss on your cheek. She had a positive outlook on life and was an inspiration to everyone. She loved animals, her cat Maui and her dog Koda were her 4 legged best friends. She met Moses Trujillo in 2000 and they were together for 23 years.

Josette is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jessica Chacon, nephew Rafael Bobian and her high school sweetheart Dane Mestas Sr.

She is survived by her daughter LaToya (Charles); son Dane (Sarah); stepsons: Curtis, Jeremy, Brian and Zack; grandchildren: Marcos (Angelina), Analysia, Mario and Ashlie; spouse Moses; sister Josslyn (Dan) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Rosary will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 5:30 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Memorial Mass/Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 24, 2022, also at Sacred Heart.
