Joseph Richter Obituary
Joseph was born January 7, 1928, in Yugoslavia. He married Anna Mereiter on March 29, 1948 in Austria. The family immigrated to America in 1952 and lived in New York and New Jersey. In 1972, they moved to Durango when they bought the Sunset Motel on Main Street. They also owned/operated the Landmark/Ramada Motel.
Joe and Anna loved to dance, especially the polka. He was a self prescribed work-a-holic, therefore he excelled at all things to make his business successful. They also enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by children: Lori Kunder, Joe Richter, Jr., and Tony Richter all of Durango; two sisters: Christine Sommerkorn of New Jersy and Marie Anders of New York; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna, in 2015.
A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church.

We were very sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle Joe. It was many years ago and I was very young when Uncle Joe moved his family out west. He followed his destiny ,leaving all behind , took a chance, worked very hard with his wife at his side and made a huge success in the Hotel business. Such courage and drive to provide for his family, is more than amazing. It is a true testament to his character as a man. Our heart felt sympathy goes out to the Richter family. Alas , another great Krindjiana has left the earth. Marco , Patricia and the entire Feldi family.
