I had the chance to work with Joe on several City of Aztec projects and came to admire him for his patience, integrity and willingness to pass on his knowledge. He was a very good man. Frank and I are so sorry for your loss.

You identified yourself as a "sheepherder" rather than "over the hill cowboy"; A peek into your humility and sense of humor. You will be missed!

To all of Joe's many family, friends and neighbors, and there were a lot of them, my condolences. But this is also a happy time, knowing that Joe is again with Clara, having made that walk with not only his wife but all those who preceded him in this life. I first met Joe in the early 1980's while working with his son, Greg, at the Aztec Safeway store. Joe (and Clara) graciously gave me a place to stay on their riverfront property for two years while I looked for a home to buy. Joe was always coming down to visit and ask me if I needed anything. He was a great landlord but he was also a quiet sole with a kind of homey and folksy outlook on life. I am sure he always thought that the glass (of anything) was always half full. He wasn't bothered by a whole lot of distractions and he always seemed to be the ideal spouse, parent, friend and neighbor. There is much comfort in knowing that Joe lived an exemplary Christian life and will be rewarded for his life here on Earth. Greg, your dad was THE BEST and I know he taught you well, as he did all your brothers and sisters. We know Joe is happy with Clara again and that God welcomes him home with wide and loving arms. Joe, well done good and faithful servant. And thanks also for helping care for the poor and sometimes transitional souls who made your acquaintance. You lived a life of service to others and all we can say now is thank you. God and Jesus now await your coming home to them.
