John White Obituary

John Earl White, a Fort Lewis College graduate and Vietnam veteran of Wolfforth, Texas, died May 29, 2014, after a battle with cancer. He was 69.

Mr. White was born on March 6, 1945, in Del Norte, Colorado, to John H. White and Anna Marie Patterson White. He married Sharon 'Sherrie' Stickle on Feb. 26, 1972.

Mr. White served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. On returning, he enrolled in Fort Lewis College and graduated with a degree in criminal justice. He worked in law enforcement in Colorado and New Mexico for seven years and then spent twelve years working in oilfield security in Roswell, New Mexico. In 1992, he moved to Sweetwater, Texas. There, he worked as a regional director for Ducks Unlimited for 18 years until retirement.

In retirement, Mr. White moved to Wolfforth to be closer to his son and grandchildren, sometimes working part-time as a driver for Scott George Motors.

He was a member of the Elk's Lodge and a lifelong member and verified instructor with the National Rifle Association. Family said he relished spending time with his grandsons and was busy restoring an antique truck at the time of his death.

"He loved helping others and was always there for anyone who needed him," said Mr. White's family.

Mr. White was preceded in death by a baby sister, Vivian Irene.

He is survived by his wife, Sherrie; son, Brandon; sister, Sharon Nash; brothers Michael, Paul and David, as well as two grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Mr. White's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Lake Ridge Chapel in Lubbock, Texas. A tribute to Mr. White can be found at www.memorialdesigners.net. You can also view the service for Mr. White at www.memorialdesigners.net.
