John McKnight Obituary

John (JD/David), born in Alabama in 1954, spent his early years in Lawrenceville, GA. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia before moving to Colorado to further his education. A lifelong member of the NRA, JD developed a deep passion for Colorado's hunting and breathtaking mountains, making the state his home.

His dedication to education was evident throughout his career, as he taught at Miller Junior High, Fort Lewis College, and Pueblo Community College, eventually becoming a beloved substitute teacher known for his rapport with students. JD also served with pride in the La Plata County Sheriff's Department, relishing his time as a police officer.

A distinguished expert marksman, he eagerly shared his love for shooting, even offering classes later in life. An avid reader, JD's insatiable curiosity made him a reservoir of knowledge, enriching the lives of friends, family, and students alike.

One of his greatest joys was his close relationship with his son, with whom he spent countless cherished moments. Known for his quick wit and humor, JD brought warmth and laughter to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

John is survived by Clinton McKnight (Son), Shellby Sayer McKnight (Daughter-In-Law), and Gwendolyn McKnight (Granddaughter).

He is preceded by John Daniel McKnight (Son), Michael McKnight (Brother), and Pamela Fort (Sister).

Services will be held at a later date.

This hits hard.
I took JD's classes at PCC. His humor, wit and conviction was unmatched. I hope he is truly enjoying playing back every detail of the truth of the JFK assassination, and seeing exactly just what went down in the Civil War. Enjoy that Moon Pie and RC Cola in the sky, JD. Thank you for being Dad to my best friend and for being one of the best teachers I ever had.

JD was my part time English and history teacher at Miller middle school. Years later, he was also my CCW instructor.
This man was definitely one of a kind. Rest in peace my friend.

I met JD about nine years ago and became instant friends. JD had a big heart and big mind; he was gifted in so many ways and shared his gifts with all those who crossed his path. He was a devout father, teacher, friend and stout Republican! He will be sorely missed, but his lessons will live on with all of us. Rest in peace, my friend. We will meet again.

JD was a shooting buddy for years. You could always count on him for a bit of philosophy and a willing hand. He was the only person of his kind, and I do believe they broke the mold!
