John Manzanares Obituary

Ignacio native John Andrew Manzanares died Thursday, June 16, 2011, in Seattle. He was 88.

Mr. Manzanares was born to Estanislao and Maria Manzanares on June 24, 1922, in Ignacio. He left school at an early age to work on his family's farm. As a young man, Mr. Manzanares moved to California before settling in Seattle in 1943.

On May 19, 1943, he married Stella Baca in Farmington.

Mr. Manzanares worked as a hod carrier on masonry projects before going into real estate.

Mr. and Mrs. Manzanares enjoyed returning to Colorado to visit family and traveling after his retirement.

Mr. Manzanares was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Stella Manzanares; and daughter Carol Doyle.

He is survived by his sons David Manzanares, Steven Manzanares, Henry Manzanares, Drew Manzanares, Anthony Manzanares and Carl Manzanares; daughters Catherine Herda, Christina Austin and Andrea Szalda, all of the Puget Sound area; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2011, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mountlake Terrace, Wash.
