I worked with Ernie at the Bureau of Reclamation from 1961 through 1972, He is the only person I have ever known who never said anything bad about anybody. He just did not do it. One of the finest persons ever born. I had not seen him in many years, but have thought of him some over the years. I'm saddened to hear of his passing, and my condolences to his family.

Sonny (Ernie) was one in a million and will be missed by so many. He was a very special and accomplished man. We all loved him so much!

It is with great sadness that I read of Ernie's passing. I have known him and his wonderful wife for many years from Kiwanis and church. He was one of the finest examples a human being can be. My heart goes out to his family.

When Ernie retired from the Bureau of Reclamation in 1978 or so, I sent him the following note: "We changed the environment...and made it better." Ernie was always fond of that. And I'm glad it made him feel good. Ernie and I worked together on the Dolores Project and the Animas La Plata Projects. And we flew together he in his Cessna 172 and me in my Piper Tri-Pacer. God speed Ernie. And to your family I wish the best.

If only we didn't have to say goodbye to a kind, wonderful, accomplished man. What a wonderful neighbor he was and we will forever remember him and all his talents and especially his accomplishments as a Father. We send our condolences to Mary Ann and all his wonderful family.

I'm going to miss that ever present smile as he walked across the church parking lot. He always had a smile for everyone. That smile could light up a dreary day. Thanks for your years as Scoutmaster at Troop 501 at the Presbyterian Church. You influenced many young men, including our sons. We thank you!
