John Brenner Obituary

Bayfield resident John Maxwell Brenner died Sunday, July 1, 2012, in Bayfield after an extended illness. He was 81.

Dr. Brenner was born Nov. 25, 1930, in London to Harold Isaac and Jessie Judith Brenner.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 as a MASH Unit medic in Korea and in 1952 received his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons in Irvine, Calif. He later earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California at Irvine in 1962.

On November 17, 1981, he married Sheila Brenner in Los Angeles.

Dr. Brenner spent 50 years practicing medicine in Southern California, Central Florida and Farmington before retiring to the Bayfield area with his wife. He had private medical practices in Orlando, Fla., and Riverside, Calif., and was medical director for CIGNA in Los Angeles.

In Farmington, he served as Guardian Angel Home Health and Hospice medical director, San Juan Home Health Care medical director, Immediate Care Center physician and as a physician and board member for Presbyterian Medical Services. He served as chief of staff at San Juan Regional Medical Center in 1993.

He was a member of numerous professional associations, including the Senior Aviation Medical Examiner, Civil Aviation Medical Association, Aerospace Medical Association and American Association of Medical Review Officers.

Dr. Brenner enjoyed astronomy, fishing, marine aquaria, large dogs and his family.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sheila Brenner, of Bayfield; children Terry Hoffman of Sanford, Fla., Skipper Brenner of Winter Springs, Fla., Leslie Briante of Apopka, Fla., Ronald Lawson of Auburn, Wash., and Robert Lawson of Forney, Tex.; as well as 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 312 N. Orchard Avenue in Farmington.
