John Boyle Obituary

Dr. John Francis Boyle, Orthopedic Surgeon from Durango, CO.

April 9, 1944 - November 2, 2024

Born in Denver, CO to Francis Warren Boyle and Mary Blanche Wethington, John spent his formative years in Durango, Colorado, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and the mountains. A dedicated athlete, he was active in wrestling, mountaineering, and cross-country skiing under Coach Dolph Kuss, during his time at Durango High School.

John initially pursued his ambition of becoming an engineer at the Colorado School of Mines before discovering his true calling in medicine. He attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine and began his career as a family physician in Telluride, Colorado, where he became fondly known as the "town doctor."

John married Adrienne Gryczko, with whom he had three sons, Christopher, Jason, and Jonathan. Following their divorce, John later married Nancy Camper, expanding his family and finding continued joy in shared adventures and outdoor pursuits. A skilled sailor, he spent eight years building his own sailboat, which he christened "The Real Deal." Upon its completion, he embarked on a two-week journey down the Missouri River.

John is survived by his wife, Nancy Boyle; his children, Christopher (Claire) Boyle of Belfast, Ireland, Jason (Sarah) Boyle of Austin, Texas, Jonathan (Diana) Boyle of San Diego, California, Philip Gardner of Provo, Utah, Heather (Tony) Martines of Price, Utah; and eight cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Teresa (Michael) Lundgren of Erie, Colorado; and brother, Don (Debra) Boyle of Durango, Colorado.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, William.

The family will always appreciate the care and love Nancy showed to John in his passage from this life.
