Joan Green Obituary
Joan was an extraordinary person--instantly liked and quickly loved by many who knew her well. Her charm, wit, intelligence and sheer joy in people and in hiking, skiing, climbing and making music here in Durango will be remembered for generations. She left us with wonderful original music, prose, poems, and songs.
Joan graduated from Cornell University where she was a staff writer and managing editor for the respected Cornell Daily Sun newspaper, and in 1969, met her future husband, Jim. She and Jim were together for 47 years, the last 40 here in their house outside Durango.
Joan took great pleasure in maintaining close contact with all of her family, and is survived by her husband, Jim Harvey of Durango, her sister, Irene Blumenkranz, of Palo Alto, CA, brothers-in-law Paul Harvey, Craig Harvey, nephews J.J. and Aaron Blumenkranz, nieces Amber Harvey and Karen Saenz and husband Albert Saenz, grand-nieces Sawyer, Payton, Truly, Juliana, Pauline and Zoe and grand-nephew Mika.
Memorial services will be held at Congregation Har Shalom on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to:
(1) Congregation Har Shalom, PO Box 9199 Durango CO 81302 (tax deductible), or
(2) Mercy Medical Center Heart and Vascular Fund, 1010 Three Springs Blvd, Durango CO 81303

We are so sad to learn that Joan has left us. We had a nice friendship with her and Jim while we were living in Pagosa Springs and then Durango.
She was a very sweet and friendly person who we both admired. Our sincere condolences to Jim.

Joan was my sister's good, longtime friend. I first met her in 1970, in Ithaca, where she welcomed me with great warmth and kindness.
She was the drummer in a band, wearing glittering silver pants and dark glasses. How cool was that?
I saw her a few times over the years. Always warm, funny, kind. She made a strong positive impression on me as someone who was a true success as a human being.
Our grief is a testament to our love and respect.
