Jeffrey Kelly Obituary

Area resident Jeffrey Kelly died in September 2008 after being reported lost in the Cascade area. His body was discovered in June 2009. He was 48.Mr. Kelly was born to Regis Emery and Byron K. Kelly Sr. in Hanover, N.H., on Feb. 14, 1960. He was a sixth-generation resident of Woodstock, Vt., and graduated from Woodstock High School in 1977.

Mr. Kelly had lived in Southwest Colorado on and off for many years beginning in the late 1970s, when he worked at Tamarron Resort.

In the early 1980s, he married Deb Kelly at the Fort Lewis College Chapel. The marriage later ended in divorce.

Mr. Kelly also had lived in Santa Fe, where he sold cars, but would come to this area to go camping on weekends. At the time of his death, Mr. Kelly was living at the Cascade Creek Campground and working odd jobs.

"Jeffrey will be remembered by his good nature and good humor," his family wrote.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his father, Byron J. Kelly Sr., of Woodstock; son, Jeffrey Ryan Kelly, of Quechee, Vt.; daughter, Lauren Brooke Kelly, of Quechee; brother, Byron K. Kelly Jr., of Woodstock; sister Michelle L. Bradley of Woodstock; and several nieces and nephews.

A coffee to share memories will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, on the anniversary of the date when he was discovered missing, at Durango Coffee Co.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Appalachian Trail Club in Woodstock.
