Jeanette Keane Obituary

Former Pagosa Springs resident Jeanette Kay Keane died after a long battle with cancer Monday, 19, 2008, at Mercy Regional Medical Center. She was 64.

Mrs. Keane was born April 30, 1944, in Denver and adopted by Dr. Herbert and Mary Thompson. The family moved to Pagosa Springs in 1946, and for many years, Dr. Thompson was the only physician in the town. After graduating from Pagosa Springs High School in 1962 and attending two years of college, first at Western State University in Gunnison and then at Adams State College in Alamosa, Mrs. Keane moved back to Pagosa Springs.

Mrs. Keane was a teacher's aide at Pagosa Springs Elementary Sch-ool for 14 years before going into banking. She worked for Palm Harbor Homes in Farmington, N.M., until October 2008.

Mrs. Keane married John Keane on March 17, 1967. They met when John was 5 years old and Jeanette was 2. She told her grandmother soon after that she was going to marry the boy.

Mrs. Keane is remembered as a loving homemaker with a passion for her family. She kept her door open to her daughters' and grandsons' friends and was known with her husband by many simply as "mom and dad" or "grandma and grandpa." She was passionate about gardening and hummingbirds.

Her family said she was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Mrs. Keane is survived by her husband, John; her daughters, Charlotte of Aztec, and Michelle of Pagosa Springs; two grandsons; many nieces, nephews and numerous "adopted" children and grandchildren.
