Jean Reddy Obituary

Jean Crane Reddy was called home the evening of August 18, 2017, passing peacefully at home surrounded by her children. Neither her heavenly Father, nor her beloved husband Melvin, who passed in December 2002, could wait any longer.

Jean was born on January 17, 1927, as Phyllis Jean, to Cliff and Opal Crane in Dodge City, Kansas. She graduated from Colorado Women's College and married the love of her life, Mel, in spring of 1947. They exchanged vows that held strong over the next 55 years, through five children, four Latin American countries and a revolution. The family moved to Cortez in 1970 and, once the nest had emptied, to the Rafter J subdivision outside of Durango in 1985.

Jean had a strong and abiding faith in God, which was the center of her life. She shared this through church involvement, missionary trips and support of many organizations with time and treasure. Her faith was evident in her kindness, generosity and courage. One could not ask for a kinder, wiser friend and mother than Jean.

Jean is survived by her sister-in-law Virginia Kennett; children Mark (Diane), Cindy Chavez, Dave and Lisa; grandchildren Badi, Shallah Perlman (Aaron), Ma'ani Maggard (Doug), Hakim, Dante Chavez, Camille Marshall (Aaron) and Marissa Chavez; and great-grandchildren Langston, Tajid Person, Anisa Person, Mikkel Person, Layli Mitchell, Akira Mitchell, Anjelica Maggard, Julian McAteer, Reese Romans, Cadence, Ashton, Calvin Marshall and Eli Marshall. She is preceded in death by her brother Cliff Jr., son Randy and husband Melvin.

A memorial service will be held in Durango at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 E. 3rd Ave. on Saturday, August 26 at 10 a.m. followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to Navajo Ministries, PO Box 1230, Farmington, NM, 87499, (888) 325-0255, navajoministries.org.

You are in our thoughts and prayers through these difficult days and missing Jean the rest of your lives. She was so kind, and gracious. Her faith was active in every thing she did. She was quiet but expressed solid moral values in a non judgmental way. She was a blessing.
