Jane Carman Obituary

Jane Ruth Behrens Carman, 76, passed away on March 13th, 2025 Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, and raised in Metuchen, NJ, Jane graduated from Fort Lewis College in 1971. In August 1977, she married Bruce Carman, and together they raised two children, Casey and Erin, in Durango, CO.

Throughout her life, Jane was dedicated to education, teaching at Fort Lewis Mesa, and Park Elementary Schools. She was deeply committed to her community, her church, and her students. A beloved member of her community, Jane had a remarkable ability to connect with others, organizing and participating in gatherings that brought people together.

As an advocate for diabetes support groups, Jane was passionate about helping those facing similar challenges. She was an avid supporter of Fort Lewis College basketball and enjoyed cheering on CU basketball and football teams with her family.

After her divorce in 2017 (with Bruce remaining a close friend), Jane moved to be closer to her children and grandsons in Broomfield, CO. She continued to cultivate lasting friendships and was known for her kindness and support wherever she lived.

Jane is survived by her former husband, Bruce; her son, Casey (Jenny); her daughter, Erin (Matt); and her cherished grandsons, Chase (13), Dylan (11), and Grant (7). She is also survived by her brother, Mark (Ann); her sisters, Kay and Fay (Renan); sister-in-law, Jeanne; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Jane was preceded in death by her brother, Lee.

Services will be held later this summer near Georgetown, CO.

I am so sorry to read about Jane's passing. Such a wonderful, funny and happy person. Every encounter with her during our children's years at Park Elementary School was of Jane smiling, helping students and parents and being such a welcoming and joyful person. May Jane be in peace and her loved ones be consoled with the big heart she was known for. Joann Hards

I had the pleasure of knowing Jane as a Park parent and later as a 9R substitute. Jane was always upbeat and the friendliest person. Her daughter, Erin babysat for my girls and I loved catching up with Jane when I was at Park subbing. My condolences to her family.

There's so much to express about Jane...There aren't enough positive adjectives to describe her gregarious laugh, her lively personality, her generous spirit, her warm heart, her everything to so many lives she touched.
I remember being on a short vacation from 9R Admin. when I was asked to interview her for a teaching position in Durango. Jane was living in Grand Junction and was wishing to move back to Durango. It only took a short visit before sincerely thanking her for applying to our school district I hoped she would join!
We (children, parents, teachers) were the recipients of her professionalism, knowledge, and - most of all - her friendship. She was special and will be sorely missed.

I met Jane at the early morning spin classes at the rec center and had shared interactions with her in Durango and Broomfield. She always went out of her way to talk and laugh with me. Jane was one of the friendliest and nicest people I have had the privilege of knowing. Sending my heartfelt condolences to Jane's friends and family. She will be missed.

Jane was our across the street neighbor for many years up on Arroyo Drive. She was a teacher at Park during those years. She was a very nice person and everyone in the neighborhood respected her. I would often see her and her other 2 teachers from Park School at early morning spin classes riding the stationary bikes at the rec center at 5:30 until 6:30 am. They were all dedicated to exercise. My condolences to her family.

Jane was kind. We met at an auto mechanics class at a Ft Lewis College Extention class. Jane learned how to change spark plugs on her beloved car Blacky which I later festooned with ropped on cans and soaped messages of just married . I am glad to have known dear Jane. Debra Galbraith
