James Yeager Obituary

Former Durango resident James Yeager died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at his home in Aztec. He was 79.

Known as "Ron," he was born to Gerald and Betty Yeager on Aug. 26, 1934, in Durango. His family had been pioneers in the area going back to 1898. One of six children, Mr. Yeager grew up in Durango and graduated from Durango High School in the early 1950s.

On June 22, 1954, he married Janet Louise Oliger in Durango. The couple had five children together before the marriage ended in divorce after 22 years.

Mr. Yeager worked as a logger, mechanic and truck driver, including many years for Donward Trucking.

In 1980, he married Billie Bainter in Durango. The Yeagers had lived in Aztec for the last 20 years.

Mr. Yeager enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, his family said.

"He was friend to many," according to his family. "His loving, teasing character will remain with all who knew him."

Mr. Yeager was preceded in death by his son, David Yeager.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Billie Yeager of Aztec; daughter, Christine Yeager of Aztec; sons Mike Yeager of Ignacio, Grant Yeager of Durango and Carey Yeager of Mancos; sisters Loy Nielson of La Mirada, Calif., Colleen Ribaudo of Hillsbrough, Mo., and Linda Bachman of Osceola, Iowa; brother, Rick Yeager of Festus, Md.; stepchildren Sandy Bainter of Mancos, Ronnie Bainter of Aztec, Connie Shay of Joplin, Mo., and Bonnie Bainter of Springs, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
